Analysis

Interestingly, a lot of good third basemen went undrafted in this league, or at least ones who would end up being good. Aubrey Huff, Jorge Cantu, Mark DeRosa, Melvin Mora, and Mark Reynolds all ended up being in the top 15 3Bs after not being selected.

The best pick at 3B was also the best pick at 1B, Kevin Youkilis, and besides him, nobody really outperformed their draft position.

The biggest disappointments were mostly young players. Ryan Zimmerman, Hank Blalock, Josh Fields, and Chase Headley all came up well short of their draft positions, though none of the four spent the full season in the majors (Zimmerman and Blalock were hurt, Fields and Headley spent time in the minors). I wouldn't be surprised to see those guys drafted again next year.
