Who am I?
My name is Joe Mattingly. I graduated from Penn State University in 2007, earning a degree in business with an entrepreneurship option. I've worked in a variety of office, retail, and service positions, but my real passion is for writing. And while I enjoy composing my own works (as you can see/have already seen on my blog), I also love helping other people get their message across.

What have I done?
I've worked on documents with varying levels of complexity, and for wildly different audiences. I've composed technical instructions for little old ladies to read and follow. I've prepared a grant application to expand the Entrepreneurship program at Penn State Altoona. I've written recommendation documents regarding potential laptop purchases, complete with statistical references. I've proofread dozens of letters, emails, and essays. I've written hundreds of blog posts, and thousands of emails.

I have a wealth of experience reading, writing, and revising the English language. I've included a few examples of my writing below for your reference:

What can I do for you?
My goal is to make sure that your message is delivered in the most understandable and complete way possible. Some editors will offer you multiple tiers of service. The base tier will provide simple proofreading for spelling, grammar, etc. The "extended" tier includes proofreading as well, but also reviews text for clarity, consistency of message, and appropriateness for the particular audience.

I offer a single review tier: the "extended" tier. Each review will include the following types of revisions:
  • spelling and word mix-ups (there/their/they're, etc),
  • capitalization, punctuation, and other grammatical concerns,
  • clarity and readability, and
  • word choices with regards to tone and audience.

I think when you ask someone to give your document an edit, you never mean, "Just make sure I spelled laundry correctly." Because maybe you actually meant "lingerie," and someone who would just take the thirty extra seconds to read for meaning would know that. I don't want to give someone an edit, and then have them be dissatisfied with my edit because I didn't correct something that wasn't technically part of that level of service. So, my level of service will always be "complete."
